Kashmir DMC for Travel Agents: How to Choose One (Checklist)
Not every company that calls itself a Kashmir DMC is one. Here is the checklist travel agents and tour operators can use to tell a genuine B2B destination management company from a retail operator with a partner login.
Search for a Kashmir DMC for travel agents and you get a long list of companies. Some are genuine destination management companies with contracts and staff in the valley. Some are travel agencies with a B2B page. A few are lead-generation sites reselling somebody else's inventory. From your desk in Mumbai, Dubai or London, they look the same.
This checklist is what we would ask before putting our own clients on a supplier in Kashmir.
What a Kashmir DMC for travel agents must have
Eight questions. A supplier that answers all eight well is a partner; one that dodges two or three is a risk you are taking on your client's behalf.
1. Are they registered — and with whom?
Tour operators in Jammu & Kashmir are registered with the Department of Tourism, Government of Jammu & Kashmir, and the registration number is public. Ask for it. A supplier that cannot produce one is either new, informal, or not actually based in the valley.
Kashmirly's parent company, Holiday Formula, holds J&K Tourism Reg. No. JKEA00001487 and has operated since 2022.
2. Do they sell to travellers too?
This is the question most agencies forget to ask, and the one that costs them the most.
A retail operator with a B2B tab is bidding for your client on Google and Instagram with the same inventory it sells you. Its published prices set a ceiling on your margin, and its retargeting will find your customer after you have sent the quote.
A B2B-only DMC has no consumer site and no reason to know who your client is. Kashmirly is built this way on purpose: every trip sold through the platform is sold by a partner agency.
3. Are the rates current, or is it a PDF from last season?
Kashmir pricing moves with the season, the Amarnath Yatra period, snow in Gulmarg, and how full the houseboats are that week. A tariff PDF is out of date the day it is emailed.
Ask how rates are maintained. The answer you want is seasonal rate cards per hotel, room type and meal plan, per vehicle route, and per activity — and a quote that is calculated from them for your dates, not copied from a template.
4. How long does a quote take?
Time a real enquiry. A three-city, seven-night itinerary for a family of four with one hotel change should not take a day. If the supplier prices from rate cards, it can be done in seconds; if it goes to a person with a calculator, it will take hours and be wrong occasionally.
Kashmirly prices a custom itinerary live, in under five seconds, at your partner rate.
5. Who is on the ground when the client lands?
A DMC with an office in Srinagar and drivers on the payroll handles the 6 a.m. flight change and the road closure at Sonamarg. A reseller in another city phones someone who might.
Ask where the operations team sits, who your client's point of contact is on arrival, and how a change on the day is handled.
6. Can you sell under your own brand?
At minimum: unbranded vouchers and itineraries. Better: a shareable booking page per tour carrying your price. Best: a white-label storefront on your own domain, so your clients book from your website and the DMC stays invisible.
7. Can it connect to your systems?
If you run a booking engine, a CRM, or a website with search, a supplier with an API saves you rekeying every booking. Ask whether the catalog, live quotes and bookings are available over a documented, versioned API. Kashmirly's is at kashmirly.com/api.
8. What does joining cost, and what are the terms?
Ask what registration involves, then about payment terms, cancellation policy per hotel category, and whether a wallet or credit facility exists for volume partners.
The short version
A good Kashmir DMC for travel agents is registered in J&K, trade-only, priced from current seasonal rate cards, fast to quote, staffed in Srinagar, willing to disappear behind your brand, and able to plug into your systems. That is the standard we built Kashmirly to meet.
FAQ
Questions this article answers
What should a travel agent check before choosing a Kashmir DMC?
J&K Tourism registration, whether the company also sells to travellers, whether rates come from current seasonal rate cards, quote turnaround, where the operations team is based, white-label options, API availability, and commercial terms.
Why does it matter whether a Kashmir DMC sells to travellers?
A supplier that sells retail competes with its agency partners for the same client, sets a public price ceiling on their margin, and can retarget their customers. A B2B-only DMC has no consumer channel.
How fast should a Kashmir quote be?
If the supplier prices from seasonal rate cards, a full custom itinerary can be quoted in seconds. Kashmirly prices live in under five seconds; manual quoting typically takes hours.
